
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 24

Committee on Rules.]
Commemorating Reuben S. Kirk, the first American casualty in Desert
Storm and requesting that an appropriate historical marker be
placed at Dunlow, Wayne County, West Virginia.
Whereas, West Virginians have distinguished themselves with the
highest level of participation per capita in the great wars fought
by this nation; and
Whereas, Army Private First Class Reuben S. Kirk of Dunlow,
Wayne county, West Virginia, age 19, was the first American
casualty in the Desert Storm Campaign of The Persian Gulf War in
Kuwait; and
Whereas, It would be a fitting tribute to this young West
Virginia soldier that we honor his memory and supreme sacrifice for
his country and state with an historical marker in his home town;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That it is hereby requested that an appropriate historical
marker be placed at Dunlow, Wayne County, West Virginia, in memory of Army Private First Class Reuben S. Kirk, West Virginian, and the
first American casualty of the Desert Storm Campaign of the Gulf
War; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the Division of Culture and History.
